A good meal

December 31, 2008: It’s the last day of the year, 2008! I asked myself what I have done, what I am most pleased with, and what I have accomplished this year? It has been a year with few major events that stood out. What I am pleased with – or rather, relieved about – is that my article is almost completed, and is currently under review. I am glad the tedious reading is over. I have ‘met’ online a really kind soul who was willing to take the trouble to send me precious reading material. This is really what I consider as one of my blessings. At the same time, I am also thankful to all those who have cooperated with and supported me in my project. Finally to A. who has been great, as usual.

I recall my dinner in November with some family members at the Bar & Billiard Room in Raffles Hotel . We were all prepared to pig-out with a Chianti Classico. This one's the best so far for me (see below), and thus deserved some great accompaniments. "What would be good?" - I'd scratched my head for about a month before finally deciding on the Bar & Billiard Room again.

This time, we brought in the Classico and no corkage was charged, with the condition that a bottle of wine was purchased there, which we did.

The fresh oysters from Australia wasn't the attraction for me this time. We had a few and J. discovered a baby crab -still strolling around the oyster- when it was opened! We had the friendly manager of the restaurant to throw it into the pond outside the restaurant, which he gladly did.

Duck meat hasn’t been one of my favourite meats at all, but this one sure stands out.

And a few more finger-licking cakes:
